Dean tracking south

The Meteorological Services of Jamaica is reporting that Hurricane Dean is now located 90 miles south east of Morant Point.
Duty Forecaster at the Met Office Viola Jones says the system remains a powerful category 4 system. Meanwhile meteorologists from the weather channel say the system could be very destructive:


Dean affecting JPS system

The Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) says high winds have started to affect its power system.
As a result the JPS says in a short while it will shut down it will shut down the national grid.
The JPS says this is necessary to protect the network.
Head of corporate Communications, Winsome Callum says the impact of the wind on power lines could result in long-term damage to key elements of the system.


Up to 53 stranded on Pedro Cays

There are reports that at least 53 persons are now stranded on the Pedro Cays.
According to Chairman of the Jamaica Fishermen Cooperation Havelan Honeygan the fishermen have refused to evacuate the Pedro Cays.
In the meantime, Mr. Honeygan says the Jamaica Coast Guard is asking the stranded fishermen to break off the locks to the JDF base and to use that facility.
