The National Hurricane Center in Miami has reported that Ophelia is a category three hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale, with maximum sustained winds near 75 miles per hour and higher gusts.

Some additional strengthening is forecasted during the next day or so.

Forecasters said tropical storm force winds are possible in Bermuda starting late tomorrow.

The Bermuda weather service has issued a tropical storm watch for the island.
