Tropical Storm Danny heading for Bahamas

Tropical Storm Danny developed east of The Bahamas today and residents in that country and those in the south-eastern United States are being urged to monitor its movement.

Earlier this afternoon, the National Hurricane Centre in Miami reported that Danny was about 445 miles east of The Bahamas and was moving toward the northwest at 16 miles per hour.

It also said its possible that the system will continue to intensify in the coming days as it moves closer to that country.

The Hurricane Centre said its likely that the central and western Bahamas, along with the Turks and Caicos Islands, could receive up to four inches of rain associated with Tropical Storm Danny.

The previous storms Ana, Bill and Claudette were downgraded.

Forecasters have attributed the slow start to the El Nino weather phenomenon in the Pacific.
