Floyd Green, Chairman of the Jamaica Association of Young Professionals (JAYP) is to receive National Association of Jamaican & Supportive Organization’s (NAJASO) President Distinguished Service Award this weekend in recognition of his impact on his community and for his years of dedicated service.
The award is to be presented by NAJASO during its 35th Annual Conference on July 12-14 in Buffalo, New York being staged under the theme, “Celebrating Jamaica’s 50th Anniversary and NAJASO’S 35th in Unity”. Fellow Jamaican Young Professional Ammesha Samuels, who is also a director of the JAYP and NAJASO's Jamaican and Eastern Caribbean Representative will also receive an award for her outstanding service and contributions to the community."Prime Minister, Portia Simpson-Miller is expected to be keynote speaker at the Conference on Saturday, July 14 and Jamaica’s new Ambassador to the United States and the Organization of American States and Jamaican American Mayor of Buffalo, New York are the Patrons of the event.
The award follows on JAYP’s move to strengthen relations between young professionals in Jamaica and the Diaspora by partnering with non-profit organization, NAJASO. “I am humbled and honoured by the award and I am confident that the JAYP and I will continue to work with NAJASO to strengthen the impact of the Diaspora on local realities" he said.
He explained that the JAYP’s main focus is to reach out to Young Professionals wherever they are located. The Diaspora was seen as one of the key areas that ought to be included in its activities and focus. In 2008, JAYP’s Diaspora Advisor Karen Johns suggested that they engage NAJASO because of its wider reach in the Diaspora and strong focus on outreach. Out of this suggestion, a strong partnership focused on developing deeper links between young professionals locally and abroad was borne.
Founded on July 4, 1977, the National Association of Jamaican & Supportive Organization (NAJASO) is a non-profit, non-partisan, tax-exempt Umbrella Association of Jamaican and Supportive Organizations nationally. NAJASO has grown throughout the years and is the largest and most influential Jamaican body in the United States of America, Caribbean & Jamaica.
Other attendees to the conference include Diana McIntyre Pike, NAJASO Jamaica Vice President, Dr. Channer Watson MD, NAJASO Vice President- Jamaica/Eastern Caribbean and Winston Wellington-NAJASO Jamaica President.
