DPP: Too early for ruling in Keith Clarke killing

The Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Paula Llewellyn has concluded that there is need for “further and better particulars” before she can make a ruling in connection with the shooting death of businessman Keith Clarke in May 2010.

Last month, the Office of DPP received a file from the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) for a ruling on the killing of Clarke by members of the Jamaica Defence Force.

Llewellyn had asked a team of two deputy DPPs and two Crown Counsels to review what she calls the voluminous file.

In a statement a short while ago, Llewellyn said: “Having considered all the statements and other material on the file, it was discovered that there is need for further and better particulars touching and concerning an important aspect of this matter that is still to be furnished by the investigators.”

The DPP says she therefore cannot make a ruling at this time.

Llewellyn says her office has requested that this outstanding material be furnished as soon as possible so that a ruling can be made in the matter.
