Rookies Adrian Barath and Travis Dowlin hit attractive half-centuries today as West Indies launched their bid to save their four-day first class match against Queensland at Allan Border Field in Australia.
Facing a huge deficit of 346 runs on first innings after Queensland piled up 617 for seven declared, West Indies finished the third day on 133-1, still requiring 213 runs to stave off an innings defeat.
Barath was leading the resurgence with a stroke-filled, unbeaten 65 while Dowlin cracked 53.
Earlier, Queensland, who resumed on 383 for four replying to West Indies’ 271, added another 234 before the declaration came.
West Indies 21-year-old rookie fast bowler Kemar Roach finished with 3-135 from 32 overs and was the pick of the bowlers.
Ravi Rampaul, Dwayne Bravo, Sulieman Benn and Deonarine ended with a wicket each.
The game is West Indies’ only opportunity for valuable match practice ahead of the first Test which starts next Thursday at the Gabba.
