The Assistant Commissioner in charge of major crimes Les Green, said there is a lack of political will to pass key legislation that could fundamentally change the way the police investigate serious crimes.
Among these laws is the legislation that would make it standard and legal for the police to use fingerprint, photograph and particular DNA evidence to help in the prosecution of criminal suspects.
According to ACP Green the DNA and fingerprint legislation must be enacted as a matter of urgency.
He said there are outstanding murder investigations in Mandeville for example that would be instantly cleared up, if the police were to secure those laws.
ACP Green was addressing the monthly meeting of the Manchester Chamber of Commerce in Mandeville.
