Jamaica’s cricketers travel to Guyana

Jamaica’s senior cricketers are scheduled to depart the country this afternoon at 1 p.m. for the fifth round West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) regional first class championship, starting on Friday in Guyana.

The unbeaten Jamaica will face off with Combined Campuses and Colleges at the National Stadium at Providence after getting a bye in the fourth round.

All-rounder Nkrumah Bonner is set to make his first class debut for Jamaica after being one of four players called up for the three remaining games.

The 21-year-old right-arm leg-spinner, has been named in the 13-man squad along with fast bowlers Andre Russell and Jason Dawes, and off-spinner Bevon Brown.

They will replace Brendan Nash, Nikita Miller and Wavell Hinds who are on West Indies duty, and fast bowler Daren Powell who has quit the team for the rest of the season.

Reigning champions Jamaica lead the points’ table on 36 points, three ahead of Barbados on 33.

Combined Campuses and Colleges hold down third place on 33 points, while Trinidad and Tobago are fourth on 21 points.
